Renowned architect John Pawson remodeled the Design Museum's permanent home to sit within the skin of the Grade 2 listed former Commonwealth Institute. The aim was to preserve and enhance the original structure’s post-war modernist features.

The roof is perhaps the most famous feature which is open for guests to admire from the triple height atrium. It contains 250 tonnes of copper and seems to defy gravity.
